Uncoloured; a dark impression, centrefold expertly repaired and strengthened, with two short horizontal tears also expertly repaired, visible when held up to the light, minor marginal soiling and staining, otheriwse a good example. German text on verso printed upside down.
State 2 of the World map from the Mercator-Hondius atlas after 1641, with 'Amstelodami Excudit Ioannes Ianssonius' added. Highly decorative with portraits of Julius Cäsar, Claudius Ptolemy at the top and the author's father Jodocus Hondius and his mentor Gerard Mercator at the bottom. Similar in style to Speed with California as an island. New details include the Australian coastline extending towards New Guinea and the redrawing of the north-east coast of Canada.
