Original colour: minor defects, colour offset and soiling to map with some marginal repairs. Centrefold has an old repair and strengthening. One short tear (repaired) just into plate mark on the left-hand side and bottom left corner has an old paper repair. Inspite of the listed faults the overall condition is fair to good..
The highly decorative maritime map engraved by Romeyn de Hooghe. Unlike many maps of this period the double hemisphere map is engraved whilst the allegorical illustrations surrounding the map are etched. The elements are depicted by war for fire, the heavens for air, the harvest for earth and ships and a spouting whale for water. SHIRLEY: 444 plate 327.
