RUSCELLI, Girolamo. Orbis Descriptio.
Venice, c.1561. 185 x 260.
Coloured possibly old; some expert restoration to small worm holes with no loss of printed surface on the front. Slight staining and soiling but apart from these listed defects it is still quite presentable.
One of two 'modern' world maps that appearred in Ruscelli's edition of Ptolemy's 'Geographia'. Engraved on copper it shows a finely detailed double hemisphere map of the world, the first to appear in an atlas. Possibly adapted from the oval projection used for Gastaldi's larger world map. SHIRLEY: 110. Plate 94.
